Azharuddin: If SA got Steyn, Morkel, Rabada, we have Bhuvneshwar, Shami, Ishant

Mohammed Azharuddin believes India have got the pace ammunition to pay South Africa back in the same coin as the opening Test of the series opens in Cape Town today.

Azharuddin, who was captain when India played their first Test in South Africa way back in 1992-93, felt the current team stands out when it comes to pace bowling.

"This is a golden opportunity to play attacking cricket and the reason is very simple -- India have a strong pace bowling attack and they have been bowling well," Azharuddin told mid-day. He believed Virat Kohli’s Indians are well prepared despite not playing a warm-up game. "According to reports, they have worked really hard. I believe the team management has planned things properly to prepare in the best possible manner for the series," said Azharuddin.

"If they have Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel and Kagiso Rabada, we’ve got Mohammed Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ishant Sharma. It will be a very eventful Test match.

"Traditionally, India play three pacers and a spinner. I think they will follow tradition but if there is grass on the pitch, it will
help Indian seamers too.

"We could not win a Test series there in the last 25 years mainly because we didn’t have a proper pace attack. I am sure there will be plenty of bounce. Our pacers will extract the same and they know how to use that in their favour," Azharuddin stressed.
